HVV-US Joins 28 Organizations on Letter to Administration about CED Language in White House Initiative

June 14, 2024 Comment Letter, Policy Center

Heart Valve Voice US joined Society for Women’s Health Research and 27 organizations on letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Brooks-LaSure and White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research Chair Dr. Carolyn Mazure sharing concerns with CMS’ commitment, as outlined in the March 18 Executive Order on Advancing Women’s Health Research and Innovation, to “strengthen its review process, including through Coverage with Evidence Development guidance.” The signers, while enthusiastic about the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research and appreciative of CMS’ intent to reflect women’s health needs through CED, believe that this path could have unintended consequences on access to care.

When a person is newly diagnosed with any disease or serious medical condition, they are often flooded both with anxiety and unfamiliar medical terms. The weight of the unknown can overwhelm. Patients diagnosed with heart valve disease hear words like: stenosis, regurgitation, heart failure, valve repair or replacement, blood thinners, tissue or mechanical valves, open heart surgery or minimally invasive procedure. And that list doesn’t even include any of the tests! Feeling unsure while navigating decisions about treatment is completely normal. If you or a loved one is in this situation, you’ve earned the right to feel anxious.
